Prophecies or promises – By Hella Ahmed

Billionaires are here to get you …

(By Hella Ahmed) To the question « do you believe in prophecy? » I decided to go further than my first idea and not answer briefly as I was about to do at first. My starting point was the « not really » answer. I think a lot of people with different cultural traditions and beliefs, including religion, are kind of tortured by their faith. It is in fact a very strange fear, the fear of not following the principles presented as legitimate even if they are not quite grounded in reality from a rational point of view. The fear of being guilty of not following the guidelines perfectly and thus failing to achieve an honest virtue that does not jeopardize the truth is also a major issue.

The super wealthy can skip guilt

Guilt can be felt but is not experienced in the same way by everyone. Some people will be conflicted to the point of self-destruction out of guilt, while others will tend to see themselves as the chosen ones with a free pass at certain levels. They just can’t afford to be perfect to excel at ruling and saving others from ignorance, can they? They like to believe that there are sacrifices to be made to ensure the glory of faith, but the sacrifices are not the same for the glorious or glorified and the peasants.

For the powerful, it is about controlling the freedoms of others and having a hard time doing it. For the peasants, it is about serving the lords, the very ones who advocate freedom of expression by killing it, only to feel proud of their abuse of power. Again, I mention narcissism because that is what makes people blind to the real knowledge of others, their beauty, their rights and their needs, blind to the respect they should show to the treasure of individuality. It is extreme narcissism that makes them self-centred and indifferent to the well-being of others. No one has the right to restrict the power of creativity, like he would simply turn off a light or put something away in a closet.

The self-fulfilling prophecy

The over use of the ‘self-fulfilling’ prophecy concept is also a symptom of authoritarianism. This concept is not about some ultimate truth you can be applying all the time, like a magic tool to turn a weak speech into a solid one. For example, it is true that if you talk bad or not quite eloquently about yourself as you publicly share your struggles, you’re being vulnerable and that can be perceived as an open door to competitors and oppression. People around you will sadly generally, most of the time, instead of helping, choose to take advantage of you if you seem beaten up, it is natural selection in its gross way. Empathy is not a dominant state for humans. Everyone consciously or unconsciously wants to compete, and not necessarily loyally.

Some below average « thinkers » like to talk about racism in motivational talks that seem more devastating than encouraging, denying its existence, claiming that for people to consider it is a way to become miserable because they are or will be lazy and blame their condition (of not having the same great opportunities as the privileged who stick together and suppress the elites’ infiltrations) on non-really existant unfair treatments. This is obviously a simplification used by so-called motivators who like to put others down while calling it preaching to enlighten.

They just want to feel above their followers. They flatter themselves and talk about intervention or information, but it is all about domination. I think that politics is the best illustration of what a paradoxical system can be, because it is indeed supposed to be devoted to directing collective affairs towards the interest of the people, but if you look closely at the situations that politicians deal with, you realize that they made a career choice to earn a good living, to be loved and to feel famous. They are stars living well off your taxes, you work for them but they give you the impression that it is the other way around.

Vulnerability as a business strategy

The corporate political discourse leans towards a valued vulnerability the public is invited to embrace, but it is actually a call to make you put your guards down so that denigration and exploitation can be easily implanted as strategies for growth. If you are not sure about your abilities and goals no matter what, you will be swallowed up. Are they themselves openly vulnerable? Even their so-called exposed vulnerability is staged, as long as you don’t expose the reality, no one knows the truth about you. Showing a bit of real vulnerability is a luxury you can afford when you’ve already carved out a place for yourself, stood up for what you believe in, and of course most importantly when you have plenty of money to be untouchable.

People can be known as presumably being defenders of some social values they express themselves about or take actions towards in the public eye, but when it comes to eating up someone else’s share to be in the spotlight for some publicized lucrative « success », they will not think twice before putting their principles aside while at the same time discoursing about them. Life loves irony, don’t get confused about truth, most of the time, there are no real promises, just illusions with some clear spots to make you hope for more, for something that will not happen.

Being in politics is a good career choice

Most people in politics are entrepreneurs and lawyers, they have a strategic mind, and the contradiction strikes because what is public is by definition not meant to serve the private, while many special projects getting public financial support are private. Of course, the private is made up of citizens, they are part of the public that the public system serves, but when sensitive information is being withheld from the public about how their taxes are redirected and spent, it’s pretty clear that many people involved in politics are greatly benefiting when regular workers are struggling, living on very little. The first cause of death by suicide is « financial reasons », it is the same everywhere in the West.

Drug use (legal drugs now sold on the streets, and let’s not forget this pandemic was triggered by the over-prescribing of medication done by licensed doctors) only adds to the deterioration in the quality of life of the unemployed or devastated by debts (caused by the rising cost of living and the constantly adding up school and/or basic life expenses loans heavy interests) people who can no longer bear the pressure of being marginalized because what they earn or can earn is a joke. Billionaires know this. Medicines (or drugs) are sold by pharmaceutical empires, by billionaires. They all want your taxes and your « health crisis money » because they want more money for secret projets, golfing, fine dining, jet flights and luxury vacations in beautiful islands.

There’s no real global hope

Degrowth is not the solution to stop unlimited growth with no attachment or conscience as we see happening with large corporations that have been financially backed with impressive amounts coming from the public funds to create limitless billionaires, individuals who feel they have more power than any president. Elon Musk who probably sees humans as dots on a screen and goes shopping in a private jet is maybe just a stingy man who would take your wallet if he finds it, to put your 40 bucks in his pocket and go buy himself donuts. The problem is corruption and fake policies. Money can always buy you more power and freedom, I wonder if billionaires who despise humanity can be stopped before they really turn us into the characters of a video game, they get to play on the toilet seat.
